Opening your teenager’s cell phone bill can be frightening to say the least. But imagine if that bill came on 440 pages. Well that is what Greg Hardesty of Silverado Canyon, Calif. got when his 13 year old daughter’s cellphone bill came this month.

14,528 text message entries filled those 440 pages.  Luckily Greg sprung for the unlimited texting plan.  If he hadn’t he would have been out almost $3,000 for one month’s bill.  Setting aside the financial aspect of text messaging, what is this girl’s life like that she has time to send an average of a text every two minutes while awake?

So what are cellphone rules like in your house?  How do you avoid overages and how do you handle them when they happen?  What methods have you found effective for reigning in over the top obsessive cell phone usage?  Have your kids convinced you that a cell phone is a right not a privilege?
