When the day comes that the robots rise up and execute their cold and efficient plan to kill all humans there will be two kinds of people on the planet. There will be those that know the innermost workings of robots and can use that precious knowledge to target and exploit weaknesses in their brutal clockwork to stand and fight back and there will be those that are doomed to spend their days running. When that day comes, Chicago will be a fortress of humanity, chock full of robotics experts thanks to Bots 4 Tots.
Ok so robots rising up to exterminate humanity is probably not the most likely of scenarios, but in the near future there will still be two kinds of people. There will be people who are comfortable with their robots and capable of maintaining them, and there will be people who are wary of their robots and will pay through the nose when they go to the shop for minor repairs. Not unlike cars or computers today.
Bots 4 Tots is a Chicago based charity that is working to (from their mission statement)
… bring robotics to the lives of curious youngsters who would not have the opportunity to learn about the craft otherwise.
Every cent donated to Bots 4 Tots goes towards a beginner’s robotics workshop for a Chicago area child. The cost for a session for one child is $25 which includes a complete robot kit, use of the the facilities and all necessary tools at Robot City Workshop, and assistance from Bots 4 Tots founders Don and Alexis along with the employees of Robot City Workshop. Sessions will have no more than five children so that each can get personal assistance and should last about 2 hours. At the end of it each kid will walk away with a smile, a sense of accomplishment, and a little robot that s/he built.
According to Hack-a-Day the founders hope to expand their offerings to include more advanced group projects. We will be sure to keep you informed as we learn more. Now go donate and bring the joy of robot into some youngster’s life!
